Donald ”Don” P. Fischer

Donald ”Don” P. Fischer, 88, of Sabetha, Kansas died on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the Sabetha Manor in Sabetha.

Don was born on March 1, 1935, near Waverly, Kansas to Gene and Ida (Houston) Fischer. Don grew up on a farm near Waverly and attended Waverly schools. He graduated from Waverly High School in the class of 1953.

Don married Joy Williams on June 7, 1959, in Waverly. After their marriage, they both taught school in Morrowville, Kansas. Then in 1962, Don and Joy moved to Sabetha. Don was the guidance counselor at Sabetha High School for 36 years until his retirement in 1997.

Don was a member of the Sabetha Church of Christ where he taught many different bible classes for people of all ages. He also preached, organized Bible Bowl events, as well as other seminars and workshops to help people grow in their faith. Don- mission in life was to share Jesus with others. As a preacher, Don had the pleasure of officiating for many weddings and funerals for people in the community. In his spare time, Don enjoyed watching Kansas sports teams, attending family events, cooking, and reading novels based on historical events.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Joy, on November 14, 2017.

Don is survived by his children, Kim (Lyle) Lancaster of Desoto, Kansas and Terry (Kelli) Fischer of Edmond, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Mackenzie Lancaster of Lee- Summit, Missouri, Logan Lancaster of Lenexa, Kansas, Pryce (Paige) Fischer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Dia (Zack) King of Florissant, Missouri; two brothers, Gerald Fischer of Scranton, Kansas and Cliff Fischer of Overbrook, Kansas and nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as his wonderful church family.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sabetha Church of Christ in Sabetha. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.
