Doris Marie Buser-Torkelson

Doris Marie Buser-Torkelson, 93, of Holton, Kansas passed away on Wednesday April 12, 2023 at the Holton Community Hospital.

She was born in Frankfort, Kansas on October 3, 1929, the daughter of Elmer and Inez (Walters) Smith. Doris was raised in California until she and her family moved back to Kansas during her senior year of high school. She then later married Robert Henry Buser on April 12, 1948. They lived together on a farm in Jackson County. He proceeded her in death on November 10, 1974. She then married Roy J. Torkelson on July 11, 1976. He preceded her in death May 19, 2002. She then married her 3rd husband Marvin Wenger on March 17, whom has since now passed away.

She was a member of the Whiting Methodist Church, and was an active teacher of Sunday school and bible school. She later attended the Horton Methodist Church and the services held at her home at Vintage Park in Holton, KS. She lived out her dream of being a “farmer- wife” and was a loving wife and caring mother with a big productive garden and beautiful flowerbeds.

She was also proceeded in death by parents, Elmer and Inez Smith, step-mom; Mildred Smith, brother and sister-in-law; Duane and Delores Smith, sister; Nina Howes, brother-in-law; Roger Holmes, step-daughter; Faye Silver, and a grandson, Shawn Buser.

Survivors include, three sons; David Buser (Jeanne),Diller, NE; Gerald Buser (Debbie), DeSoto, KS; Timothy Buser (Shelly), Horton, KS, a daughter, Patti Wright (Micheal),Veguita, NM, two step children: Lee and Lou Torkelson, a sister, Phyllis Holmes, four step sisters and one step brother, 17 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Horton First Baptist Church, Horton. Burial will be in the Springhill Cemetery in Whiting, Kansas. The family will greet friends on Monday, April 17, 2023 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
