David Joseph Plankinton

David Joseph Plankinton, 74, of Topeka, KS passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at University of Kansas St. Francis Campus Hospital in Topeka. He was born March 31, 1949 in Horton, KS, the son of Lee Tharp and Frances Eileen (Jensen) Plankinton.

David graduated from Holton High School in 1967. After graduation, he enlisted in 1968 in the United States Army; serving 2 years during the Vietnam War as a 13D, Fire Direction Soldier. He later attended ECPI Tech School for Electronic Computer Programming.

He worked as a Computer Programmer from 1973 to 1989 at KPL and for many years as a Computer Program Systems Analyst at Metropolitan Life. He was also a traveling contractor; retiring in 2004.

David married Kathleen Ann Visocsky on September 10, 1970 in Holton, KS; they celebrated over 52 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of the home; son, Shawn D. Plankinton (Aimee) of Stafford, VA; daughter, Roberta K. Hanson (Michael) of Merriman, UT; sister, Karen Rowan of Hiawatha, KS; brother, Boyd W. Plankinton (Helen) of Holton, KS; 10 grandchildren, Jonathan, Marcus, Audree, Tionna, Mekenzi, Malcolm, Dominick, Brooklynne, Erin and Devin and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Frances Plankinton and 2 brothers, Robert and Raymond Plankinton.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with Military Honors, conducted by Holton V.F.W. Post 1367, will follow at the Larkinburg Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Holton V.F.W.
