Oliver " Weldon" Gullickson

Oliver " Weldon" Gullickson, 94, of Everest, KS passed away April 22, 2023 at Hospice House in Olathe, KS.

He was born October 19, 1928 to Oliver and Mabel Gullickson in Horton, KS. Weldon grew up in Horton, KS and had cherished memories of his childhood in Horton. The difficult years of the Great Depression instilled Weldon with an insatiable work ethic. He graduated from Horton High School in 1945 and while in school he worked many part-time jobs to provide additional income for his family while maintaining excellent grades in school and playing football, basketball and running track. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Air Force on October 31, 1946. He was quickly recognized as a potential Air Force officer and was given an appointment to the United States Service Academy West Point service academy in New York. He excelled academically and athletically. He decided to complete his military commitment with 3 years of active service and then pursue a career in business. Weldon completed his service commitment on November 1, 1949 and married his childhood sweetheart, Margaret Olson of Everest, KS on July 23, 1950.

Over the next 70 years he worked in the steel fastener industry. During those years he started and built 5 different fastener related firms. His commitment to customer service, value, and quality provided employment opportunities for many individuals and provided quality and value products for customers throughout the Midwest. He leaves a huge legacy in the fastener industry. Weldon has served in many community service roles in Texas, Nebraska and Kansas. He maintained a high commitment to the communities where he has lived. He also served as pastor of two NE Kansas churches, Woodlawn Baptist Church and Fairview Baptist Church He became a beloved Pastor to the families of those churches and he has done many weddings and funerals in the community. His impact on the faith community of NE Kansas is immeasurable.

Weldon loved his family fiercely and is survived by Margaret, his loving wife of 72 years. He leaves 3 grown children Ron Gullickson of Dallas, TX, Kathy Keller of Shawnee, KS and Mike Gullickson of Lincoln, NE. He is also survived by one of his siblings, Maurice Gullickson of Hiawatha, KS. Weldon leaves 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchilderen plus a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, by his 4 beloved sisters, and by his cherished son, Kevin Gullickson in 2020 of Everest, KS.

Weldon was known to always have a joke ready for any occasion and a strong shoulder ready to lean on for any tragedy. The motto of West Point is “Duty, Honor, Country”. Weldon lived by that motto but he also had a deep commitment to family and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be desperately missed.

Funeral arrangements by Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary of Horton, KS with the funeral service at the Horton Baptist Church on Saturday, April, 29 2023 at 1:00 PM followed immediately by internment at the Horton Municipal Cemetery in Horton, KS.
