Anna Jean Stephenson

Anna Jean Stephenson, 90, of Smithville, MO, formerly of Holton, KS, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at St. Luke- Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. She was born June 19, 1932 in Rushville, MO, the daughter of Nathion J. and Ruby Lee (Foote) Bolls.

Anna graduated from Onaga High School in 1950. She lived for 5 years in Smithville, MO and over 68 years in Holton, KS. She was a homemaker and worked as a secretary for USD 336 schools; Colorado Grade School and Holton High School. She also worked as a telephone operator for United Telephone, Slimaker Dress Factory and secretary for Harry Crosswhite. From home, Anna was a seamstress doing alterations and also a tax accountant.

Anna was a member of the First Christian Church in Holton, American Legion Post 44 Women- Auxiliary and Elk Creek Sam- Camping Club.

Anna married Jackie Doyle “Jack” Stephenson on December 22, 1950; they celebrated over 70 years before his passing on December 26, 2020. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jon Stephenson; parents, Nathion and Ruby Bolls and brother, Earl Lee Bolls.

Survivors include daughter, Celinda Smith of Manhattan, KS; 2 sons, Robert L. Stephenson (Carla) of Council Grove, KS and James Stephenson of Smithville, MO; brother, Dr. Nathion Bolls, Jr of Manhattan, KS; 3 grandchildren, Chelsea Smith, Stephanie Krebs (Preston) and Brandy Stephenson and 5 great-grandchildren, Conner Perry, Lydia Krebs, Calyssa Cleveland, Ava Stephenson and Hunter Krebs.

Graveside Service will be 12:00 p.m.. Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at the Holton Cemetery. Anna will lie in state Monday from 12:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
