Melvin Mosher

Melvin LeRoy Mosher, 76, of Odessa, MO, formerly of Holton, KS, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at St. Mary- Medical Center in Blue Springs. MO. He was born September 15, 1946 in Greeley, CO, the son of Frank and Margaret M. (Bacon) Mosher.

Melvin graduated from Briggsdale High School in Briggsdale, CO. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1968 - 1970. He was aboard aircraft carrier USS Hornet; serving the Pacific Ocean including 3 tours in Vietnam and the Yellow Sea (North Korea). Melvin was aboard the USS Hornet as it recovered Apollo 11 and 12.

Melvin worked for NR Hamm- as a Licensed Class B Blaster and later retired from Goodyear Tire Company as a Banberry Operator.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Holton Baptist Church, lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1175, American Legion Post 400 and Local Union 307.

Melvin married Wilma Cattrell on December 28, 1974 in Holton, KS. They celebrated over 48 years of marriage. To this union, one son, Delman Mosher was born.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma of the home; son, Delman Mosher (Heather Knowles) of Oak Grove, MO; 5 grandchildren, Haley Osborne, Abilene Mosher and Cordel Mosher, Charlie and Aaron Williams and 4 great-grandchildren, Jason Haynes, Grayson, Ellianna and Lochlyn Osbourne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret Mosher; sister, Doris Anderson and 3 brothers, Max, Marvin and Charley Mosher.

Funeral Service will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Holton. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the church. Melvin will lie in state Thursday afternoon until 6:00 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
