Richard Dee” Dick” Christensen, 86, of Atchison, KS passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023, in Henderson, NV.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 12th, 2023, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS, with burial following at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lansing, KS. There will be a luncheon to follow the burial at the Riverfront Community Center, Leavenworth, KS. The family will receive friends from 4-6:00 pm on Sunday, June 11th, 2023, at the funeral home. Dick was born September 24, 1936, in Tescott, KS. He was the son of Frank and Ruth (Horting) Christensen. He joined the United States Army and served most of his time in Germany. Dick was then employed by the United State Postal Service. He became a steward for the Postal Union during his 40-year tenure as a Rural Letter Carrier. During this time, he also used his skills as a carpenter doing sheetrock and ceiling texture in many homes in the Atchison area.

After retirement, Dick pursued many hobbies including learning how to play the guitar. That led him to join a small band called the Back Porch Band. He enjoyed crafting homemade beer and wine which he shared with many as well as the love of gardening. Dick was also a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the VFW in Atchison.

Dick is survived by 6 children: Rob Fitzgerald (Kris) of Lawrence, KS, Richard Christensen (Robin) of Cave Creek, AZ, Randy Fitzgerald of Lawrence, KS, Betty Hutson of Henderson, NV, Bobbi Davis of Henderson, NV and Rodney Christensen of Shawnee, KS. He also had 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edith and sister LaDonna Stafford.
