Ralph "Leon" Lockwood, 99, of Horton, Kansas passed away peacefully with is children by his side on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at his home.

He was born on June 21, 1924 in Horton, Kansas the son of Thomas and Grace (Brown) Lockwood. Leon attended Horton High School. Leon joined the United States Navy and was active during WW II.

Leon married Mary "Jane" Willis on September 12, 1947. They lived in Horton and Everest, Kansas and Kidder, Missouri throughout their married life. Leon worked as a heavy equipment operator, a telephone company manager and as an insurance agent.

After he retired at the age of 65, he and Janie became camp hosts for the next 20 years at various lakes around Kansas. Some of the best memories were made at these lakes with visits from his kids and grandkids. Janie preceded him in death on September 30, 2020 after 73 years of marriage.

Leon enjoyed fishing, cooking for family and playing cards. You could always count on a game of pitch where it was a fight to be on Grandpa's team. Leon had a love for horses that was passed on even to his great grandchildren.

Survivors include; a son, Tom Lockwood of Hiawatha, Kansas; daughter, Susie Lednicky of Horton, Kansas; son-in-law, Mike Sands of Fort Worth, Texas; brother-in-law, Jerry Willis of Kansas City, Missouri; sister-in-law, Zelma Willis of Sabetha, Kansas; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Leon Lockwood, daughter, Cathy Sands, daughter-in-law, Joyce Lockwood, granddaughter, Carsyn Sabrina Lowe, brother-in-laws, Jim Willis and Jack Willis, sisters in-laws, Jody Streeter and Charlene Willis.

At Leon's request, there will be only a graveside service with Military Honors on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the Horton Cemetery. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
