Hiawatha, KS

Laura Belle Huff Wegener passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family and dear friends on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Laura was born in St Joseph, MO on May 28, 1934, and was raised on a farm near Robinson KS by her parents, Mildred and Charles Huff. She graduated from Robinson High School where she participated in choir, band and began a life-long love of music.

Laura married Dean R. Wegener of the Zion Community north of Robinson during a fierce snowstorm on March 1, 1953. They were the parents of two daughters: Candace Sue and Constance Lu. Laura and Dean lived on the family farm until moving into Hiawatha.

Laura was a member of Eastern Star in White Could and Hiawatha, the Hiawatha Music Club, and was a volunteer for the Hospital Auxiliary and served on the Relay for Life Committee for several years. She led the youth choir at Zion United Methodist Church and participated in the choirs at Zion, Mount Zion United Methodist Church and Hiawatha First United Methodist Church.

A very organized person, she used those skills as the office manager at Corbet Truck Line, bookkeeper for Family Fashions and she especially enjoyed working at both Bonnie's Jewels and Gifts and Just For You Jewelry & Gifts, Hiawatha.

Anyone who knew Laura can attest that she was a devoted fan of the cartoon “Snoopy”, collecting books, jewelry, plush animals, puzzles and more…most of which she has tagged and ready to be passed on to family and friends.

Laura is survived by her best friend, Libby Dog, her daughters, Candace Siebenmorgen and Connie (David) Mathewson, both of rural Hiawatha; Grandchildren Ashleigh (John) Eddy, Luke (Denise) Davies, Stuart (Nicki) Mathewson and Whitney (Colton) Oswald; Great Grandchildren Robert and Daxton Eddy, Addyson Belle, Ainsley, and Archer Davies, Rozlyn and Gavin Mathewson and Adalynn and Cal Oswald; her favorite nephew Dennis (Nora) Wegener, Great Nieces Lisa Wegener, Emily (John) Lawrance; Great Nephew Mitchel (Jen) Wegener, two great-great nieces and two great-great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Charles Huff, husband Dean R. Wegener, son-in-law Alvin “Buzz” Siebenmorgen, and her brother and sister-in- law, Charles and Barbara Wegener.
