Judith A. Smit, 81, formerly of Wathena, Kansas passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Vintage Gardens Assisted Living in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Judi was born on December 15, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois to William Fred and Evelyn (Schofield) Schlack.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Wathena, Kansas. Judi worked in the healthcare system as an RN, in OBGYN, orthopedic surgery, ER and Phone a nurse. She also worked for the Wathena Nursing Home.

Judi married John James Smit on October 3, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 8, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jeanne Schlack.

Survivors: children, Judith “Judy” Lynn Scharhag (Steve), Great Falls, Montana.

John William Smit (Tonda), Anacortes, Washington.

Joy Evelyn Kiehnhoff (John), Wathena, Kansas.

James Robert “Jim” Smit, Peoria, Arizona.

9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Sisters, Jan Hubert and Joyce Bentley (Bob).

Nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 15, 2023.

At the First Baptist Church, Wathena, Kansas.

There is no scheduled visitation.
