Chester David Wenger

Chester David Wenger 98, of Whiting, KS passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024 at home surrounded by family.

Chester was born on December 27, 1925 at home near Whiting, KS the son of David and Hulda (Stuff) Wenger. He graduated from Whiting High School in 1944 and worked on the family farm. He was employed at Goodyear in Topeka, KS for 5 years.

Chester married the love of his life, Ruth Irsik, on February 4, 1948 at St. Joseph- Catholic Church in Everest, KS.

Chester & Ruth made their home near Whiting, KS where Chester was a dairyman and farmer.

They were members of St. Peter- Catholic Church in Mercier, KS, later became members of St. Leo- Catholic Church in Horton, KS after St. Peter- closed.

Chester was a member of Council #834 St. Leo- Knights of Columbus, Horton Fish & Game Club, & Horton Flying Club.

Chester was well known for his adventurous spirit. He loved fishing and a good game of pitch, especially with his long-time friend Norman Ross. He also enjoyed flying planes, riding motorcycles, dancing, gardening & especially visiting with family & friends.

He is survived by his 4 children: Katherine (John) Scott of Horton, KS, Frances (Marty) Ramirez of Lebo, KS, David (Jill) Wenger of Atchison, KS, and Charla (Scott) Bailey of Seguin, TX. He is also survived by ten grandchildren John (Tricia) Scott of Manhattan, KS, Alex Scott of DeSoto, KS, Paul (Starla) Scott of Tonganoxie, KS, John (Carly) Russell of Windsor, WI, Nicole (Jonathan Wilke) Ramirez of Lawrence, KS, Jesse (Jessey) Ramirez of Bayfield, CO, Sarah (Bill) Bourne of Kansas City, MO Melissa (Keith) Van Horn of Lawrence, KS, Shelly (Levi) Valentine of Olathe, KS, and Miles (Lindsey) Wenger of Marquette, MI. Chester is also survived by 18 great grandchildren: Connor & Hallie Scott, Alyssa, Eli & James Scott, Zane & Soren Russell, Arianna & Veronica Wilke, Marcus Ramirez, Alexa Bourne, Avery, Claire, Lawson, Benjamin Van Horn, Owen & Carson Valentine and Nora Mae Wenger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 siblings: Ruth Gordon, Arline Lively, Marvin Wenger & Mildred Bowser, & great granddaughter Zaira Josephine Bourne.

A parish rosary will be recited on Monday, February 12 at 9:15am at St. Leo- Catholic Church in Horton, KS. Following the rosary, family will greet friends from 9:30am until Mass of Christian burial at 10:30am with Father Dan Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Leo- Catholic cemetery in Horton, KS. Chester was passionate about supporting the Brown County Sheltered Workshop & hosted annual picnic days for the clients for 20 years. Memorials may be made to the Brown County Sheltered Workshop.
