Edwin D. “Eddie” Jones

Edwin (Eddie) Jones, 94, of Hiawatha, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

He was born May 23, 1929, in Ottawa, KS the son of John and Mary (Cramer) Jones. Eddie and his parents moved to Hiawatha, KS in 1945. He graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1947, and furthered his education attending Kansas State University.

Eddie married Patricia (Pat) Albee on February 1, 1948 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Eddie and Pat met and started dating in high school. They were married for 75 years. Their life together was filled with love and laughter. They loved spending time with each other and sharing their love with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary; daughter, Sarah (Jones) Carttar and wife, Patricia. Survivors include: sons, Phil Jones of Colorado, Chris (Karla) Jones of Emporia, Kansas and Neil Jones of Hiawatha, Kansas; grandchildren, Cuyler Jones, Bessie Smith, Rebecca (Dan) Lu, Johanna Carttar, Tennery Carttar, Matthew (Allison) Stegall and Joshua (Jessica) Jones; 15 greatgrandchildren.

Always a hard worker, Eddie had many diverse jobs throughout his lifetime including: Lineman for Kansas Power and Light Company, Truck Driver, and operator of a lime spreading business. He farmed, raised livestock, and owned Jones Nursery in Hiawatha. Eddie began selling life insurance in 1969. He thrived in this business and was know to colleagues as “Fireball Jones”. While affiliated with Franklin Life Insurance Company, he was recognized as one of the top five selling agents in the country. Eddie received many honors and awards during his career, the favorite of which were numerous trips to destinations around the world.

One of Eddie's many hobbies included landscaping and yard work, a passion that he enjoyed with his wife, Pat. His favorite past-time was golf. He was devoted to the game, and that paid off. Eddie was club champion at the Hiawatha Country Club for several years.

In earlier years, Eddie was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, later he attended the First United Methodist Church, of Hiawatha.

In accordance to Eddie's wishes, cremation has been planned, and no service is scheduled.
