Stanley Morgan Lewis

Stanley Morgan Lewis, of 510 Delaware St., Hiawatha, died at his home Wednesday, April 3.

He was born April 1, 1932 in St. Louis. He moved with his extended family to Columbia, MO, where he started school. Later he and his parents moved to Kirkwood, MO, where he graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1951. Stanley attended the University of Missouri and during the summer of 1954 attended a Ranger camp of the U.S. Forest Service near Pierce Idaho. There, he with others manned fire towers to monitor fire outbreaks. He graduated from the University in 1955, after which he entered the U.S. Army as a second Lieutenant in Korea. After two years of service he taught Jr. high science in Mexico MO, and later taught high school mathematics in Brunswick MO.

He joined RCA, as a computer programmer in New Jersey from 1959 to 1962, after which he returned to MU for a year of graduate work. Stanley joined the faculty of Highland Community College in 1965 and retired from the college in 1997. He was awarded Teacher Emeritus after he retired. Upon his retirement he enjoyed working as machinist building a live model Steam Locomotive from his shop.

Stanley Lewis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hiawatha.

Survivors include several cousins. Stephen Bobbitt of MN; Charles DeVier of Fayette MO; John Bobbitt, Diane Wilson and Susan Wilson Damron of CA.

He will be buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Josephine Wilson Lewis.
