Helen ‘Eileen’ Wohletz, 96, of Effingham, KS died on Monday, April 15, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Thursday, April 18th, 2024, at St. Ann- Church with Fr. Hughes Sundeme as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Ann- Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024, at St Ann- with visitation to follow until 8:30 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Ann- Church and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is entrusted with her services. Eileen (Bunck) was born on August 5, 1927, the daughter of Henry and Helen (Ubelaker) Bunck of Everest, KS. She graduated from Everest High School in 1945, attended the University of Kansas, and graduated from Mt. St. Scholastica College with a bachelor- degree in music. When Eileen began teaching it was for two years in rural Brown County which followed by two years of grade school in Effingham. She was married to Walt E. Wohletz on July 28, 1948. She continued teaching and he farmed; they were blessed with two boys, Gary and Dale.

Eileen taught music in Effingham at various levels until her retirement in 1994. During that time, she was most proud of her high school show choir, the Soundmasters, which she organized. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, where she played organ and directed choir for over 50 years.

Always active in the community, Eileen was a member of the Community Club, the Red Hats, St. Ann- Altar Society, and the Bunco Club. She loved the local library and enjoyed lending her support to it.

Eileen is survived by her sons, Gary (Wendy) of Little River, KS, and Dale (Julie) of Natchitoches, LA; nine grandchildren, Carrie, Tony, Jason, Casey, Jessie, Taylor, Robert, Todd, and Adriana; and 25 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother John Bunck, grandson Travis Wohletz, and her husband of 65 years, Walt.E. Wohletz (Jan 16, 2014).
