John Joseph Heuertz, 84, of Valley Falls, KS passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Midland Hospice in Topeka, KS. He was born November 9, 1939, in Valley Falls, KS the son of Benedict Alois and Clara Lousie (Seifner) Heuertz.

John graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1957. After high school, John served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1965.

On June 4, 1966, John was united in marriage to Margaret Elaine Hosler at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. They shared over 51 years of marriage before Margaret passed away on April 17, 2017.

He was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden since 1978 when it was built. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. John not only attended St. Aloysius Catholic Church, but he also took a lot of pride in taking care of the church's maintenance and cleaning.

John was a jack of all trades. In his early years, he worked for Valley Implement as a mechanic. He also worked for Heinen Repair Service in Valley Falls. John was mostly known for his thirty plus years of owning and operating his own business, J & M Appliance in Valley Falls. John could always be found tinkering on something, trying either to fix something or just to make things better. He enjoyed fixing and working on International Scouts, caring for his cattle and most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Benedict & Clara; his wife Margaret; son James Joseph Heuertz; 3 sisters, Mary Cummings, Louise Wynkoop and Catherine Abrams; brother, Edward Heuertz.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Susan L. Harris (Christopher) and Ann Margaret Harden both of Meriden, KS; son, Thomas Earl Heuertz (Calah) of Bartlesville, OK; 3 sisters, Ruth Remmers (Tony) of Lawrence, KS, Margaret Stowers (Charles) and Carolyn Lewis (Carl) both of Topeka, KS; and two brothers, Benedict and Phillip Heuertz. 10 grandchildren, Kimberly, Jessica, Jacob, Danelle, Sara, T.C., Travis, Joshua, Jolee and Levi; 4 great grandchildren, Railynn, Jackson, Annette and Wyatt.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 31, 2024 at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden, KS. Inurnment will follow to the St. Mary- Catholic Cemetery in Valley Falls with military honors. A dinner will follow back at St. Aloysius Catholic Church for family and friends. The family will greet friends from 5-7 P.M. Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church with the Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to the St. Aloysius Catholic Church or to the Valley Falls Food Pantry c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
