Christopher Harold Schuster

Christopher Harold Schuster, 95, of rural Elk Creek, NE, died peacefully with his family at home on May 17, 2024. He was the eleventh of twelve children born on a farm north of St. Mary, NE to the Walczyk-Schuster family on January 15, 1929. Chris was baptized and confirmed at the St. Mary- Catholic Church. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1947, then continued his education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for agricultural science. Chris then worked as a bulldozer operator in Sterling, NE for Boeve Construction. In 1949, Chris was inducted into the US Army. In 1951, Chris began active service in the army as an Engineer Equipment Repairman. Chris served in active duty until 1953, then transferred to reserves until 1958. On April 21, 1956, he was united in marriage to Janie Day at the St. Mary- Catholic Church in St. Mary, Nebraska. To this union four children were born, Kristi, Kirk, Kendall, and Dana.

Chris began his farming career near Princeton, NE and then purchased the farm at Elk Creek, NE where he and Janie raised their family. Chris raised cattle, hogs, chickens and more. He also enjoyed planting and harvesting crops, being outside, and simply just running his farm equipment. Chris also worked at the Johnson Motor Company. He served on the Elk Creek School Board of Education for many years. Chris always enjoyed going on big camping trips with the family and his long-time army buddy Paul Graff and family. He enjoyed fishing and teaching his children how to fish. Chris loved to tease/joke around with his children and grandchildren every chance he could.

Survivors include his four children, Kristi Rauner of Table Rock, NE, Kirk Schuster and his wife Donna of Berthoud, CO, Kendall Schuster and his wife Lisa of Elk Creek, NE, and Dana Lewis and her husband Mike of Kearney, NE, his trusty sidekick Bubba the big dog, grandchildren; Chris Rauner and wife Stefanie, Cayle Rauner and wife Austin, Caden Rauner, Logan Schuster and wife Sara, Kierra Schuster, Megan VanDeWalle, Lexie (Schuster) Hennig and husband Jacob, Delayne Schuster and fiance Triston Mendenhall, Keaton Lewis and wife Amanda, Kaleigh Lewis, and Kenzie Lewis, great-grandchildren, Ainsley Rauner, Jace Rauner, Samuel Rauner, Oliver Rauner, and Anna Schuster, brother; Johnnie Schuster of CA, sister-in-Law; Darlene Schuster of Sterling and nieces and nephews.

Chris is preceded in death by his wife Janie Schuster, his parents, John and Emila Pointek Schuster and his siblings; Cecelia and husband Allen Sebek, Martha and husband Noyle Kramer, Dolores and husband Ed Valenta, Isadore Walczyk, August and wife Cathrine Walczyk, Richard and wife Gerry Schuster, Arthur and wife Veronica Schuster, David Schuster, Louise and husband Glen Leech, Earl and wife Irene Boesiger, and Velma Schuster.

Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Christopher Kubat officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at the Wherry Mortuary, Tecumseh, Nebraska. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Table Rock Cemetery, Table Rock, Nebraska with full military honors by the Tracy-Bates American Legion Post #370 of Elk Creek.
