John S. Patton, 75, Atchison, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Mosaic Healthcare in St. Joseph, MO after a brief Illness.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, June 3, 2024, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, Kansas. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. John was born October 22, 1948 in Horton, KS and is the son of John F. “Jack” and Helen Wessling Patton Rushville, MO. and graduated DeKalb High School in 1967. After high school, John worked as a traveling salesman, selling home stereo equipment for Webb Electronics, and later opened his own stereo and CB radio store and repair shop called Patton Electronics in Winthrop, MO. He also worked briefly at the local Ford dealership, Atchison Cablevision, Commercial Vending and Depot Motors, all in Atchison before beginning his career as Instrumentation and Electrical Maintenance at MGP Ingredients in 1980, where he worked for 28 years. He then worked at Lifeline Foods and Seaboard Foods in St Joseph, MO. before retiring in 2022. He was a member of United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union, local 74D and a 50yr member of the Elks Lodge in Atchison. In his spare time, John enjoyed horseback riding, electrical tinkering and watching old black and white westerns.

Survivors include three daughters, Tonya (James) White, Mandy Miranda and Megin (Timothy) Green and their mother, Linda Patton, all of Atchison, two step daughters, Gail Hansen, Florida, and Dana Obermeyer, Platte City, MO, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Additional survivors include three half-brothers Steve (Linda) Burnsides. Jerry Burnsides, Kenny Burnsides, and one half-sister Sharlene (Dave) Sollazzo and three nieces and two nephews all of Council Bluffs, IA.

His parents, wife Judy and son John “Jay” Patton preceded him in his death.
