James Harold Strathman, 71, of Nortonville, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Village Villa in Nortonville.

James was born on February 12, 1953, to Benedict and Mary (Banks) Strathman in Sabetha, Kansas. He grew up in Sabetha and was raised in the Catholic faith. He attended Sabetha schools and graduated from Sabetha High School in 1971.

James worked in the restaurant industry in Topeka and Junction City, Kansas. James loved to read, solve crossword puzzles, and solve word search games.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Cathy Ward; and his brothers-in-law, Ray Lopez and Jim Ward.

James is survived by his siblings, Ruth Lopez of Canon City, Colorado, Bill (Tami) Strathman of Topeka, Kansas, Wayne (Sharon) Strathman of Kansas City, Missouri, Ed (Lynette) Strathman of Bern, Kansas, Gerry (Lori) Strathman of Bern, Kansas, Dean (Thelma) Strathman of Sabetha, Jeff (Cyndi) Strathman of Kansas City, Kansas, and Chris (Melissa) Strathman of McPherson, Kansas; and his many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sabetha. Prior to the Mass, a rosary will be recited starting at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will be held immediately following the Mass at the St. Augustine- Cemetery at Fidelity, Kansas which is located seven miles south of Sabetha.
