Dorothy Lee Flory, 99, of Nortonville, KS went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka, KS with family by her side.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 24th, 2024, at the Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Rev. Robert McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in the Nortonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am on Monday until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church or for Meals on Wheels, provided by the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton & O’Trimble Funeral Home who is entrusted with the arrangements. Dorothy Lee Henry was born on June 4, 1925, in Kansas City, MO., the daughter of James H. and Edna Lorene (Ellerman) Henry. She graduated from Atchison County Community High School, in Effingham in 1943. She lived in the Nortonville area most of her life.

Dorothy was a very active life-long member of the Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church including serving in the Ladies’ Aide and was the Sunday School Secretary and church historian. She enjoyed crafts and embroidering quilts that she gave to family. Dorothy was always busy working on family pictures and history. She taught herself how to use a computer at the age of 70 which allowed her to keep in touch with many people online. Dorothy had a servant- heart. She was always helping her elderly neighbors and friends in the nursing home. She cared very much about others.

Dorothy & Jim took in foster children for many years. She worked as a kitchen aide for the Village Villa Nursing Home, Nortonville for over 30 years. Dorothy was a trail blazer in helping to start Meals on Wheels in Nortonville. She was named the Volunteer of the Year by the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging for her many years of service.

Dorothy was married to James P. Flory on Nov. 28, 1942, in Bastrop, TX. Mr. Flory preceded her in death on March 16, 1989. Survivors include four daughters, Patty (Butch) Streeter, Copper Canyon, TX., Judy (Dennis) Smith, Muscotah, KS., Barbara (Bill) Robey, Nortonville, KS., and Vicki (Chris) Walters, Merriam, KS, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Her parents, husband James, a grandson Aaron Walters, two brothers Donald and Alfred Henry, and two sisters Vivian Hoerner, and Naomi Hook preceded her in death.
