Grandma Shirley Ann Jones
Dishon Maple Chaney Mortuary in Horton
Horton, KS

Grandma Shirley Ann Jones, 76, of Horton, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in her granddaughter's home in Horton, Kansas surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in Manhattan, Kansas, on May 30, 1948. Grandma loved country music, the Waltons, M*A*S*H, and Gomer Pyle. The family loved it when she started crooning, "Are you lonesome tonight?" And other bluesy country songs, lighting up the entire room. Grandma was vibrant, funny, and a colorful character. Grandma was proud that she had been on her since she was sixteen. Grandma endured four bouts of lung cancer and survived, was shot in a horrible home invasion and blinded, and found a way to shine brilliantly. Grandma had a way of sparkling and caring deeply for her family.

Family surrounded her as she passed, and we are grappling with accepting the untimely loss, even knowing all of her chronic diseases and illnesses. The opportunity to have Grandma at home during these last months with her failing health was still the most profound blessing. Grandma didn't only survive. Grandma was brilliantly stubborn and did things most nearly eighty-year-old people would never consider.

Grandma is survived by grandchildren Lynn Allen and her husband, Muhammad Umair, Alexander Allen, Holly Miller, Abigail Allen, Kevin Travis, a distant sister, Shannon, who resided in Florida, and her beloved "Peanut." The family is planning to conduct a celebration of life when we can all be together.
