Floyd attended Bittersweet Country School, south of Muscotah, KS. Floyd was a hardworking man all of his life. In his younger years, along with his siblings, he helped on the family farm, learning skills and lessons along the way that would serve him well throughout his life. Floyd was a security guard at the Missile Silos in Jackson County, KS, he worked on the Atchison County Kansas Bridge Crew and at the same time he worked at Lloyd Tinsley's Station across from his home in Muscotah.

After his retirement, Floyd discovered lawn mower pulling. He enjoyed sharing this new hobby with local pullers and pulling in area events. Floyd had a love of farming and was never happier than when he was able to help family members on their farms putting up hay, helping with harvest or lending a hand wherever he was needed. One of his favorite pastimes was to get in his truck and take a drive in the country to see the change of the seasons, the crops growing and to see who was in the fields and what they were doing. Floyd enjoyed regularly watching NASCAR racing on television. Floyd had a lifelong love of dogs, and he had special fondness for rat terriers and provided a loving home to several through the years. For the last several years he had a special fondness for Daisy Mae, a yellow Lab, that lived with his nephew Donnie and his wife Susie. He always had a treat ready for her during his regular trips to the farm to visit her. Floyd will be remembered by family and friends for his smile, laugh and his love of a good story. Floyd attended the Muscotah United Church.
Floyd married Mary Cox on September 16, 1962, in Topeka, KS. They were married 27 years until her passing on August 29, 1990. He and Mary made their home in Muscotah and he continued to live there the rest of his life. Floyd married Pauline Hollis on March 8, 1993. They were later divorced.
