Charles Robert Mercer, Sr., age 81, of St. Joseph, MO, formerly of Atchison, KS, died May 1, 2025, at Mosaic Life Care.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Olson officiating. A visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to assist the family with service expenses in care of the funeral home.

Charles was born on December 8, 1943, in Holton, KS, the son of James F. Mercer and LaVella (Johnson) Mercer. He is a graduate of Netawaka High School.

Charles worked for KDOT, Rockwell and was a truck driver. He delivered papers for the St. Joseph Newspress and was an owner/operator of the Nite Owl Cab Service in Atchison until his retirement.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, making his own quilts, working on puzzles, painting, latch hook and loving his animals. He loved cooking and having the entire family over for meals to spend time with one another.

Charles married Alice McNames on November 25, 1998; she preceded him in death on April 6, 2005. He married Nancy Miller on March 24, 2012, and she survives of the home. He is also surivived by his four children, Vickie Minhas (Muhammud), Charles R. "Bobby" Mercer, Jr., Ruth Ann Tull, Deanna Hartquist; a sister, Shirley Wells; and numerous stepchildren and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; brother, James F. "Jim" Mercer; sister, Donna Burns, stepchildren, Terry and Danny Fitzpatrick and a grandson, Shaun Cash.
