Laverne Mary Lierz Henry, 91, of Seneca, Kansas, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 5, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on January 21, 1934, to Mathias and Mary (Bergman) Lierz, Laverne was a devout Catholic whose faith guided her throughout her life. She graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul High School in Seneca in 1951 and began working in the office of Seneca Wholesale Co. On June 6, 1955, she married Arlen Henry at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The couple lived in Kansas City, Kansas, where Laverne worked in the office of Sunshine Biscuits until 1957.

Laverne and Arlen welcomed three children—Steve, Sue, and Russ—and in 1962, they returned to Seneca. Their fourth child, Jason, was born in 1972. Laverne devoted herself to raising her family and later worked in the Henry Insurance Agency, a business she and Arlen purchased from Ed and Josephine Grollmes. In 1988, with her longtime friend Audrey Mueting, Laverne started Kids and Company, a childrens clothing store, which they operated for three years.

A woman of many talents, Laverne enjoyed golfing, playing Bridge, and creating beautiful oil paintings of landscapes and still lifes. Above all, she cherished her time with family, leaving a legacy of love, creativity, and community, including contributing as a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mathias on January 11, 2004 and Mary Lierz on November 15, 1969; an infant brother Mathias on February 22, 1936; and her son, Steve Henry, on March 18, 2021.

Laverne is survived by her husband, Arlen Henry; her children, Sue Henry of Overland Park, KS, Russ (Sherry) Henry of Wichita, KS, and Jason (Janel) Henry of Wichita, KS; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her loving sister, Darlene Rethman.
