Lawrence Dewaune Wolfe, of Humboldt, died Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at his home at the age of 94.
Lawrence was born on February 2, 1931, in Shubert, Nebraska to William Edgar Jr. and Leta (Cook) Wolfe. He was raised in the Shubert where he attended school and graduated from Shubert High School with the class of 1948. Lawrence enlisted in the United States Army and entered active duty in Omaha, Nebraska on July 1, 1952. He served his country during the Korean War until being honorably discharged on June 8, 1954, in Camp Carson, Colorado. On December 22, 1956, Lawrence was united in marriage to Lois Elaine Dettmann at the home of Rev. Ward Merritt in Humboldt, Nebraska. To this union three children, Michael, Randy, and Lora were born. The couple raised their family in Humboldt where Lawrence began his career with the O.A. Cooper Company. He continued his employment as the company became Ready-Mix and worked there until retiring.
Lawrence was well known by generations of the Humboldt community. Over the years, he attended many football, volleyball, and basketball games in Humboldt and supported the many athletes competing for the school. Lawrence enjoyed doing yardwork, but most of all he loved playing BINGO. He drove almost daily to the casino to play BINGO; sometimes with his son Mike, but mostly by himself.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Ronald (Joyce) Wolfe and Charles Wolfe.
Lawrence is survived by his sons: Michael Wolfe of Humboldt, NE; Randy (Kelly) Wolfe of Summerset, SD; daughter Lora (David) Earl of Greenwood, NE; grandchildren: Cassandra (Jake) Stahl of Auburn, NE; Bradley Willey of Pawnee City, NE; Melissa Vap of Lake Charles, LA; Patrick (Sara) Wolfe of Kyle, TX; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Sharon "Kay" Dettmann of Lincoln, NE; Nadine Byrom of Colorado, and other relatives and friends.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Prairie Union Cemetery in rural Shubert, Nebraska with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Nebraska Army Honor Guard and Shubert Legion Post #222. Following services, a luncheon will be provided at the Christian Church in Humboldt for those attending services.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at The Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Southeast Nebraska Cancer Garden.
