Kenneth Richard "Dick" Powell, 79, of Highland, KS, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025.

Dick, as he was known by family and friends, was born October 6, 1945, at White Cloud, Kansas. He was one of two sons of Kenneth and Virginia Waggoner Powell and had lived in the White Cloud-Highland communities all his life where he graduated from Highland High School with the class of 1963.

Dick was a farmer at heart and farmed from 1963 until 1986 before working for Miller Implement and the John Deere Dealership in Highland for several years. He later worked for Doniphan County in the Noxious Weed-Road Departments for 26 years until he retired in 2009.

Being a farmer at heart, Dick worked for Mike Simpson, Jerry Blevins harvest crews, Emmett Cole, and finally at the tractor museum, all at Highland.

Dick was dedicated to the Highland community, serving as a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Highland ambulance service for a total of 45 years. He was baptized and joined the catholic faith in 2023 where he attended church first at St Anns in Hiawatha then later joined St. Benedict's at Bendena.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents and a brother John in 2022.

He married Joy Zacharisen in 1980, and to this union two sons were born: Zach and Aaron.

Survivors include Zach (Allison) Powell, Aaron (Melissa) Powell; four grandchildren: Hayden and John, Alexis and Madi; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 5th at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, KS. A rosary will be recited at 6:00pm and they will meet with friends and family from 6:30pm until 8:00pm.

Friday June 6th, a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Bendena, KS at 10:00am. Cremation will follow services with private inurnment at a later date at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, north of Highland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be donated to the Walnut Grove Cemetery or the Doniphan County Fire District #2 left in care of the funeral home, PO Box 33, Highland 66035.
