Obituaries Announcements
Cheryl Kaye Grimm, 43, of Sabetha, Kansas, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the Sabetha Community Hospital after fighting a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Cheryl was born on November 13, 1981, in Seneca, Kansas, to Randy and Cynthia (Ralston) Frey. She grew up in Bern, Kansas, and graduated from Bern High School in 2000. She briefly attended Highland Community College, where she made lifelong friends.
Cheryl was married to Cassidy Grimm, and from this union, two girls were born, Claudia and Ava. They later divorced. A devoted mother, Cheryl, was unwavering in her commitment to raising her girls to be loving and caring individuals. She shared her love of the farm, pets, and the outdoors with them, instilling in them the value of hard work and dedication. As a single mom, Cheryl dedicated her time and resources to provide the life she envisioned for her daughters and a life that they deserved. Whenever possible, and when she could be persuaded to go, Cheryl enjoyed traveling with her mom and girls, especially appreciating the beauty of mountain views.
Throughout her life, Cheryl cared deeply for animals and others. She began her career working at a dog kennel, then spent seven years as a nanny for her Aunt Lisa, before starting her own in-home daycare. She lovingly cared for many families in Sabetha until she became an administrative assistant at USC, LLC, south of Sabetha. Cheryl continued to work there until December 2024, when she was no longer physically able to work.
Cheryl's resilient personality emerged early in her childhood. She learned to be independent and faced challenges without complaint. Even during her hospital stays and through her suffering with cancer, she maintained her sense of humor, making jokes that endeared her to the medical staff. She fought bravely for her life until the very end.
There are no words to express how grateful Cheryl's family is to the community that supported her benefit, provided prayers, meals, and love over the past year. A special thank you to the Cotton O'Neil Cancer Center in Topeka, Kansas, and the Sabetha Community Hospital for their exceptional care.
Cheryl is survived by her daughters, Claudia and Ava Grimm of Sabetha; her parents, Randy and Cindy Frey of Sabetha; her sisters, Janelle Frey of Sabetha and Staci (Lucas) Meade of Centralia, Kansas; and her nieces and nephews, Kellan Wright of Hiawatha, Kansas, and Maliyah and Mason Meade of Centralia, Kansas. Additionally, Cheryl leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. She is also remembered by her beloved pets, Newt, Bagheera, and Mowgli.
