She had lived in many places across the United States, demonstrating her hard work ethic and charming personality. Cathy was a loving person whose primary passion was caring for children. She worked at a local Head Start for many years, educating young children and supporting their families. She made her family proud when she went back to school to receive her GED in 2001 and then went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Childhood Education in June 2004. Cathy would then substitute teach at Pawnee City High School, quickly becoming a favorite substitute to her students. She loved animals and enjoyed photography, gardening, and making people laugh.

Cathy was very proud of her Irish ancestry, often bringing out her accent and mannerisms when around close family and friends. She loved all kinds of Irish music, from Gaelic folk songs to Rory Gallagher's blues guitar. Often referred to as "Kit" by her Irish family, Cathy stayed in contact with numerous family and friends across the globe through social media, sharing old and new stories with those she loved.

Cathy passed away on September 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Veronica Kelpie of Derry, Northern Ireland; nephew Joe Kelpie of London, England; and her in-laws Dean and Carolyn Yoble of Du Bois, Nebraska.
