Matthew Blake Kuhlmann, 51, of Table Rock, Nebraska was born on October 6, 1973, in Tecumseh, Nebraska to Penny Higgins. Around the age of 3, Matt was adopted by his dad, Orlin. He would spend his youth living in Lincoln before moving to Table Rock to live with his dad as a teenager. Matt attended school in Table Rock where he graduated from Table Rock-Steinauer High School with the class of 1993. Matt grew up with a strong work ethic and a love for the outdoors that he carried throughout his life.

On August 5, 1995, he married the love of his life, Dee Herrick. Their beautiful partnership spanned 30 years and was one of Matt's greatest sources of pride. He was incredibly proud of the family they created.

Matt dedicated his working life to various trades and public service. Over the years, he was a skilled sheet metal worker, a long-haul truck driver that transported animals for a pet company, a bus driver for HTRS, and he did collections for Spectrum for a short time. He also found purpose serving his community as a water/sewer operator and maintenance man for the Village of Table Rock and the City of Pawnee City. At the time of his passing, he held the position of Zoning Administrator for the City of Pawnee City.

While he wasn't working, Matt could be found hunting, fishing or working with his chickens. Above all, however, he cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Matt passed away unexpectedly on September 30, 2025, near Table Rock, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of fifty-one years, eleven months, and twenty-four days. He is preceded in death by his mother Penny Higgins, grandparents: Reinhard and Leona Kuhlmann, and Jerry and Dorothy Higgins, and father-in-law Lonnie Herrick.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 30 years, Dee Kuhlmann of Table Rock, sons: Schuyler Kuhlmann of Humboldt, Sutton Kuhlmann of Table Rock, daughters: Taylor (Jordyn) Johnson of Lincoln, Brooke (Matthew) Milke of Stella, Bailey (Jesse) Hickey of Stella, grandchildren: Creighton, Nova, and Merritt Johnson of Lincoln, Spencer and Alaina Milke of Stella, and Morgan Hickey of Stella, his father Orlin Kuhlmann and wife Sue of Table Rock, brothers: Harry (Stacie) Dean of Steinauer, Michael Kuhlmann of Table Rock, sisters: Lisa (Darrell) Elsner of Platte Center, NE, Sabrina (Brandi Dixon) Dean of Kansas City, MO; mother-in-law Fran Herrick of Steinauer, sisters-in-law Jody (Chad) Ketter of Home, KS; Kelly (Bruce) Kohmetscher of Blue Hill, NE; brother-in-law John (Kristen) Herrick of Table Rock and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A Celebration of Matt's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Tiger Pride Activity Center, 608 6th Street in Table Rock, Nebraska with Pastor David Lockard officiating. Inurnment will be at the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Steinauer, Nebraska at a later date.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family's choice with a later designation.
