 Brenda Sue Lassiter Buel, 56, Topeka, formerly of Valley Falls, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at her home.


She was born on June 24, 1957, at Holton, the daughter of Jack M and Artith Cain Lassiter. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1975.

Brenda was a CNA and had worked at LinnWood Place in Valley Falls. She had also worked at the US Coast Guard Pay & Personnel Center in Topeka. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Valley Falls.

She married Bill McConnaughey. They later divorced. She married Pete Buel. They were divorced. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Travis Buel, Dallas, TX, and Dillon (Brittney) Buel, Ft. Scott; a daughter, Brooke (Jason Johnston) McConnaughey, Valley Falls; a brother, Rex Lassiter, Valley Falls; a sister, Cathy Jepson, Valley Falls and four grandchildren, Joel Stamper, Mallory Johnston, Jack Johnston and Lainey Buel.

Family and friends will gather to share memories of Brenda from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
