Roy Arthur Scholz, 91, of Lancaster, KS. died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, MO.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, Dec. 31st, 2013 at Lancaster United Methodist Church with Rev. Lou Davies officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Monday, Dec. 30th, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Men for Missions or Lancaster United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Roy was born on July 29, 1922 on the family farm east of Huron, Kansas the son of John and Ida (Meyer) Scholz. He attended High Prairie Grade School and graduated from the Huron High School. Roy lived on and farmed all of his life. He was always careful to preserve the land for the next generation. He was a lifelong member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church where he had served on several offices and willingly worked in the church. He was a member of the Men for Missions, a national organization and had served on mission trips to Mexico, Ecuador, Spain and to Haiti three times. He had traveled to 46 of the Continental states plus Alaska and Hawaii. He also had spent time in the Holy Land. His joy was to bring cheer to patients in area nursing homes every Sunday afternoon.
Roy was married to June Harden on May 3, 1946. Mrs. Scholz survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons; Ronald Lee (Miriam) Scholz, Denton, KS., Rex Alan (Stacy) Scholz, Huron, KS., and Seven grandchildren, Erica (Shane) Foster, Mark (Monica) Scholz and Brad (Jenny) Scholz, David, Lisa, Joey , and Koby Scholz, and six great grandchildren and a sister in law, Ruth Scholz, Mountain Grove, MO. His parents, a son, Ricky Dean Scholz, sister, Martha Scholz, and brother, Ralph Scholz preceded him in death.
