Alfred “Al” Anderson, 59, of Lansing, Kan., passed away, Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Providence Medical Center. He was born October 16, 1954, in Blair, Neb., the son of James A. and Nancy (Shepherd) Anderson.
Alfred was raised in Weston Missouri. He graduated from West Platte High School in 1973 where he was an accomplished wrestler and football player. After high school Al went to the Kansas City vocational technical school where he graduated with honors and a diploma in building maintenance, heating and refrigeration.
He married Mary McGraw in 1974 and was later divorced. In 1986, Al married Mary Catherine Corpstein, she survives at the home. He is also survived by two sons, Michael Anderson of Hale, Mo. and Matthew Anderson of Parkville, Mo.; a daughter Grace Hawkins of Overland Park, Kan.; two grandsons, Hayden Anderson and Leland Anderson; two brothers, Emery Anderson and Mark Anderson; two sisters, Barbara Anderson and Donna Lovelady.
He worked at Bay State Milling Company, Hillcrest Manor, Providence Place and Lansing Correctional Facility in the maintenance department.
Al enjoyed boating, bass fishing, playing cards and time spent with his family and friends. He had a soft spot in his heart for all dogs, especially his most recent dog, the late Tank Anderson.
He had an amazing sense of humor, and was the greatest father and husband any person could ever ask for. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army or Church of the Open Door.
