District Probe Clears Teacher of Criminal Wrongdoing

(KNZA)--No criminal findings in regards to a Horton High School teacher accused of improper contact with a student.

South Brown County Superintendent Dr. Steve Davies says the results of the internal investigation, launched by USD 430, have been shared with local law enforcement:

“Our investigation has been completed and closed, and the teacher did resign,” Davies says. “There was nothing criminal, and we have discussed that with two attorneys, one works for KASB [The Kansas Association of School Boards] and one works for us. We have discussed it with law enforcement and there just wasn't anything there that was criminal.”

The resignation of Family and Consumer Science instructor Elizabeth Crider was accepted by the USD 430 Board of Education following a 45 minute executive session which comprised the majority of a special meeting held February 26th.

It is inappropriate that the school suffix is allowed to be a self policing entity that relays THEIR findings to the police instead of the other way around. Any allegation of abuse of power should be investigated by local authorities, failure to report allegations of sexual abuse is a criminal penalty. More importantly, now this teacher is free to move on to another school district...commonly known as passing the trash. This common practice among school districts leaves our children vulnerable to predators. While I do not know the particulars of this case, it mirrors so many others across our nation that result in the abuse of children by those whom they are taught to trust. Please research S.E.S.A.M.E. .org for more information and resources. Educate and legislate...no more silence, no more stolen childhoods. Stop sweeping children under the rug.
