A longtime member of the Jackson County law enforcement community is saying goodbye.
Deputy Robert Besenyi, Junior, the current K-9 handler for the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, has accepted a job with the Lexington, South Carolina Police Department.
Deputy Brian Roush has been named as the new K-9 handler.
Besenyi began his law enforcement career as a dispatcher, later becoming a police officer, and K-9 handler for the Potawatomi Tribal Police Department in 1999.
Also working part time for the Onaga Police Department, he became a deputy sheriff for Jackson County in 2007.
Sheriff Tim Morse calls Besenyi “a tremendous asset to law enforcement in Jackson County,” presenting him with a plaque of appreciation for 13-years of dedication and service to the local community.
