The Pawnee City Board of Education continued its discussion of improvements to district facilities during Thursday’s meeting. The Building and Grounds Committee presented its recommendations to the full board, following a special meeting last month.
Superintendent Stephen Grizzle says the building and grounds committee recommended scheduling a bond election this summer. He explains the committee’s recommendations. (play audio :44)
Grizzle says the connection between the high school and the cafeteria would then become the main entrance of the high school and gym area. It would include new restrooms and a couple small locker rooms.
The school board did not make any decision on proceeding with a bond election Thursday, and they have scheduled another workshop to discuss the matter on April 30th.
Grizzle says any decision whether to schedule a bond election won’t be made until at least the May board meeting. He says any bond election would be capped at $5 million.
In other business, the board adopted the 2012-13 school year calendar as presented. (play audio :31)
Grizzle says the board approved sharing the cost of Odyssey Ware training and licensing with the Lewiston School District for the next year. He explains that Odyssey Ware is a program that helps students with credit recovery. (play audio :29)
The Pawnee City School Board also accepted the retirement resignation of Title One teacher Karin Droge, and the resignation of 6th grade teacher Taylor Dunekacke.
The board also took necessary action on the recommendations and actions of the Pawnee City Public School Foundation. Grizzle says the foundation purchased advertising in the yearbook, and purchased $800 worth of classroom materials for the Spanish teacher.
