Atchison Sr. Village Allegations and Response

A former employee and current employees of county-owned Atchison Senior Village expressed their concerns to County Commissioners about various ethical and rules violations alleged to have been occurring at the nursing home.

Former employee Tenisha Blythe came to the Commissioners, alleging that Administrator Peggy House undermines the actions of Director of Nurses Sarena Olson.

Medicalodge employee and part-time Village employee Brenda Norris questioned the ethics of an advertisement that the facility runs in a local newspaper.

Blythe also said the friction even boils over to the residents.

Nurse Karen Gilbert also alleges that county funds are being misused by Olson.

House met later on in the day in executive session with County Commissioners to talk about the allegations.

She says while she can’t comment in great deal on several of the allegations due to legal purposes, she addresses the allegation of misuse of vehicles.

House says all employees must put the residents’ first and resident care first.

County Commissioner Jeff Schuele says they plan to investigate the situation further as time moves along.

House further stated to KAIR Radio that no one should be fearful to lose job positions as a result of addressing the Commissioners.

She says while she is open to hearing employee concerns, and prefers that they address them to her first; however, she is not opposed to employees addressing Commissioners.
