Elementary Education teacher candidates at Peru State College recently hosted “Brain Quest,” a day of math and science exploration for third grade students from several area schools.
Assistant Professor of Education Gina Bittner and Instructor Darolyn Seay directed the event, along with dozens of volunteers.
The teacher candidates were divided into small groups, where they tackled specific math standards, teaching math concepts to the young students. This was the 12th consecutive semester Peru State has hosted the event for area school children.
According to Seay, the event is an opportunity for Peru State to support teacher candidates as they prepare to enter the classroom, and it provides an opportunity to stress the importance of National Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Standards.
Third graders from Auburn, HTRS, Johnson-Brock, Falls City, and Rock Port participated in the program.
