A celebration of a piece of the town’s history will help usher in the Memorial Day weekend in Humboldt. The Humboldt Chamber of Commerce and the City of Humboldt are throwing a party to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the City Park Bandstand.
Chamber of Commerce president George Marburger says the celebration will be held beginning at six o’clock Friday evening, to mark the completion of the bandstand in 1912. (play audio :37)
Marburger says the program will include four speakers. (play audio :23)
The bandstand was dedicated originally in June of 1912. Marburger says the bandstand was erected along with the four arches in the park as a public works project funded by the City of Humboldt. (play audio :17)
The bandstand is a large structure, which occupies a prominent position in the Square Park. According to Marburger, 50-tons of concrete was used in its construction.
The bandstand anniversary celebration coincides with Memorial Day. Marburger says they wanted people who come to Humboldt for Memorial Day to be able to also partake in the bandstand anniversary.
