The first phase of improving the visibility and safety of state highways in northwest Missouri is complete, as crews recently finished striping on major highways in the region.
The Missouri Department of Transportation says it met its goal to have all major routes striped by Memorial Day, in the first phase of a two-step process.
The second phase, according to MoDOT officials, is to place new stripes and edge lines on 1100 line miles of routes that average more than 400 cars per day. Any routes that have recently been paved or received a chip-seal will also be striped, along with half the minor routes in the northwest district.
Two MoDOT striping crews have been working seven days a week since mid-March to get the work done by Memorial Day. The striped a total of nearly 1500 miles of roadway in northwest Missouri.
