Two Injured in Holt County Accidents Friday Morning
06/01/2012

Two people were injured Friday morning in separate accidents on Holt County roadways.
The first accident occurred at 9:25 a.m. on U.S. Highway 59 a mile and a half east of Craig.  According to the State Patrol, Garry Stovall of Craig was driving a Chevy Suburban eastbound on 59, when the Suburban crossed the centerline and collided with a westbound dump truck, being driven by Ronald Rotert of Montrose, Missouri.
Patrol officials say Rotert attempted to swerve to avoid the accident but was unsuccessful.  The sharp swerve shifted the load in the dump truck, causing it to roll onto its right side partially on the roadway.
The Suburban spun out and came to rest on its wheels.  Stovall was transported to Heartland Medical Center in St. Joseph with moderate injuries.  Rotert was not injured.  Both men were wearing seat belts.
The second accident happened shortly before noon, at the 92 mile marker of Interstate 29, about a half-mile east of Craig.  The State Patrol says Kelly Chard of Rock Port fell asleep as she was driving her Pontiac Grand Prix northbound on the Interstate.
The car went off the east side of the roadway.  Chard attempted to steer the car back onto the road, but overcorrected causing it to skid off the highway and down an embankment, where it rolled onto its top.
Chard, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by ambulance to Heartland Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
