Nemaha County Sees Changes in New District Maps
06/14/2012

Nemaha County will see some changes under new court-drawn district maps.
All of Nemaha County is now in the 2nd  Congressional District, currently represented by Republican Lynn Jenkins.
Previously, most of the northern half of the county was in the 1st District, which takes in much of western and central Kansas.   The 1st District is currently represented by Republican Tim Huelskamp.
New state legislative political boundaries now have Nemaha County in the 1st Senate District, which is currently represented by Republican Dennis Pyle.
The 1st Senate District also includes Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Jackson and parts of Marshall and Pottawatomie Counties.
Previously, Nemaha County was in the 22nd Senate District represented by Mark Taddiken.  Taddiken has announced his retirement from the legislature.
Small portions of Atchison and Jackson Counties have been added to the 62nd House District, which is still primarily comprised of Nemaha and Brown Counties.  The 62nd House District is currently represented by Republican Randy Garber.
A three-judge federal court panel in Kansas City had to redraw district lines for the U.S. House, state House of Representatives, state Senate and state Board of Education after the Kansas Legislature failed to come to an agreement on new maps.
