Emergency Communications Exercise Set in Hiawatha
An emergency communications exercise will be conducted by the combined Hiawatha and Falls City Amateur Radio Clubs Saturday and Sunday at the west end of the Hiawatha Wal-Mart parking lot.
From 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday about 40,000 amateur radio operators throughout North America will sharpen their emergency communication skills by assembling at 2,700 locations, operating "off-the-grid" for 24 hours, and exchanging about 1,500,000 voice, teletype, television, satellite, computer, and Morse Code messages.
Sponsored by the National Association for Amateur Radio, Field Day, as it is called, has been conducted each year in June since 1933 except during WWII.
Visitors are welcome stop by, have a look, ask questions, and perhaps even get on the air.
