Full weekend of legion baseball action for Northeast Kansas League teams with double-headers and tournament action in Wathena at the Doniphan County tournament.

Doniphan County Tournament

After Rock Creek and Royal Valley moved on in the winners bracket with their first round wins on Thursday night it was another pair of first round games on Friday evening. First up, was Seneca versus Falls City just a couple days removed from facing off against each other in a regular season non-league game. Seneca just like in the other matchup would get the best of Falls City, this time utilizing a four-run sixth inning to earn a 6-4 win. Eric Huerter pitched the final one and two-thirds innings to earn preserve the game for Seneca and earn the save.

The final first round game was between Silver Lake and Lansing, it was was Silver Lake moving on with an 11-5 win. Which setup a full slate of Saturday games with Royal Valley versus Rock Creek and Seneca versus Silver Lake in the winners bracket; while Atchison and Doniphan County were to meet up in the losers bracket alongside Falls City versus Lansing.

The weather would have other plans for Saturday, cancelling the full slate of games and altering how the tournament would play out. With the lost day due to weather, it was decided to just continue with the winners bracket games. So, on Sunday first up was Royal Valley and Rock Creek. Rock Creek who already saw a solid pitching performance from Branden Luken, turned to him once more and he provided, helping his team to 7-3 win over Royal Valley, putting Rock Creek into the Doniphan County tournament championship game.

Vying for a chance to play Rock Creek was Seneca and Silver Lake. Seneca would take the lead early in the ballgame and lead it 5-1 going into the fourth but that's were things went in favor of Silver Lake. Silver Lake got to Cody Heiman and a few other Seneca pitcher's in the inning for five walks, a hit batsman, a few hits and capitalize upon a Seneca error to take the lead 7-5 after four. Seneca would get one back in the fifth and have the tying run on third with one-out but wouldn't be able to bring him home, allowing Silver Lake to hold on for a 7-6 win.

Doniphan County tournament wraps up tonight with the third place game featuring two Northeast Kansas League teams in Royal Valley and Seneca at 6:00pm and the championship game at 8:15pm between Silver Lake and Rock Creek.

Sabetha Earns Non-League Double-Header Sweep Over Leavenworth

 Sabetha swept Leavenworth Geiger Ready Mix 11-3 & 11-1.  In game one, Sabetha scored 7 runs in the bottom of the the 5th to break open a 4-3 game.  Sabetha used a pair of walks and errors and a hit batter to go along with three hits in the inning.  Kyle Stallbaumer pitched all five innings allowing just two hits.  Isaac Russell had a pair of RBI's.  Eight different hitters had a hit.
 
Sabetha erased an early 1-0 deficit by scoring four runs in the first, three in the second and a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings for the 11-1 win.  Thaine Allen, Benji Stoller and Isaac Russell had two hits to lead the 10-hit attack.  Taylor Bauman & Riley Wells had a pair of RBI's.  Sabetha gave up only five hits in the twinbill sweep.

Sabetha improved to 20-4 with the double-header sweep (8-0 league) and continues with their season on Tuesday with a game at 8:00pm at Seneca. Frankfort and Hiawatha Split League Double-Header

It was a twinbill Northeast Kansas League matchup in Centralia between Frankfort and Hiawatha yesterday and each team notched themselves a league win.

Game one, Hiawatha utilized 10 hits, 11 walks, two hit batsmen and to plate 14-runs and take a 14-6 win over Frankfort on the road. Teams would trad runs back and forth throughout with Frankfort scoring one-run in each of the first, second, fourth and fifth innings and scoring two in the third. Hiawatha scored one in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, but it was the big sixth inning that broke things open for Hiawatha as they plated eight runs. Josh Hinkle and Taylor Jacobsen each had a pair of hits and Parker Hasenkamp tallied three RBI's for Hiawatha, while Frankfort had a total of six-hits.

In game two the offense changed in favor of the home team, Frankfort, as they pounded out 10-hits to take home an 8-3 win, earning the split on the day. Frankfort got out to an early lead, 4-1 after two innings. Hiawatha brought themselves back within a run down 4-3 after the top of the fifth, but in the bottom of the fifth Frankfort plated another run and then three more in the sixth, to seal the victory. Five Frankfort players each had a multi-hit game, while Brett Burdiek had three RBI's. Hiawatha had only four hits in game two.

Hiawatha now 4-16 on the season, earned the first league win (1-10 league) will host Holton next this Friday at 8:00pm. Frankfort, 6-6 on the season (4-2 league) will next play on Wednesday at Sabetha in a double-header at 6:00 and 8:00pm.
