One of the items on the Commissioners agenda for Tuesday is an appointment with Alvin Simon at 10:45 a-m. Simon is concerned about the residential review of homes in Falls City by the Assessors office that is currently underway.
Simon is concerned about pictures being taken inside homes and the possibility they will show up on the internet.
County Assessor Pam Vice says exterior pictures of homes are taken by the Assessor. Exterior pictures of homes and buildings are in fact posted on the Assessors web page.
Vice said they do not take interior pictures of homes unless there is a protest of the valuation. She also noted that homeowners are not required to let the Assessors personnel inside their homes to do an inspection. But if they are not allowed in, the office will then be forced to make estimates concerning the interior. If the property owner disagrees with the assessment, they will then need to file a protest. After the valuation is released and an inspection will need to be done at that point.
Residential properties are supposed to be reviewed every five years. In Falls City it has been more than 10 years since a residential review was completed.
The reviews started June 21st. If no one is available at the home when the Assessor is there, they will leave a door hanger. If you have questions you may contact the Richardson County Assessors office at 402-245-4012.
