Horton 48 - Doniphan West 31
After a back and forth first quarter, Horton grabbed a 26-20 halftime lead and the game never got any closer. D-West was plagued by 20 turnovers falling to 10-5 overall and 6-4 in the DVL. Horton made 17 of 22 free throws as a team and Player of Game Shayla Whitebird scored 12 of her game high 14 points in the first half. Ashley Dishon added 11 for the Chargers who improved to 12-6 overall and 9-3 in the league.
Boys
Doniphan West 68 - Horton 66
Another back and forth first quarter with each team hitting a trio of three-pointers. D-West led 32-29 at halftime and 49-45 into the final stanza. Horton took the first lead since the opening frame when Curtis Doxtator connected on his sixth trey of the night then got a steal and Josh Merz made two free throws with :24 left to put Horton ahead 66-65. After a couple timeouts, the Mustangs inbounded from the sideline with :03 left and Marc Ellis nailed a guarded three-point-basket as time expired to give D-West the win on senior night. Ellis scored 21 while freshman Tristan Speer added 15, Luke Twombly 11 and Ben Petrik 10. The Mustangs are 6-11 overall and 3-7 in the league while Horton fell to 5-13 and 4-8 despite 21 points each from Merz and Doxtator. The game featured 20 made shots from behind the arc, 11 from the Chargers.
