Lady Wildcats use defense to hold on for win over Lady Jayhawks
02/13/2012

It was the Sunflower Sundown in Manhattan, Kansas with the women of the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats facing off. In what was a close contest throughout the game the Wildcats came away with the 47-43 victory. Even though the game was close throughout the contest it many have been decided in two different stretches, that being the first four minutes and the last 4 minutes of the game.

Jayhawks in the first four minutes of the game saw their leading scorer and a top player in the Big 12, in junior forward Carolyn Davis hit the floor with an apparent knee injury that sent her to the hositpal, leaving the Jayhawks without arugably their best player for the rest of the game. After the loss of Davis the Jayhawks still battled through the game having a great performance courtesy of forward, Aishah Sutherland who finished the night with 22 points and 17 rebounds, while guard, Angel Goodrich chipped in 13 points, also. It just wasn't enough as the lady Wildcats held the Jayhawks scoreless in the final three minutes and thirty seconds of the game and was paced by 18 points from guard, Jalana Childs.

The Wildcats now sit at 16-8 on the season and 7-5 in the Big 12; while the Jayhawks fell to 17-7 and 6-6 in the conference with the loss.
