U-S Senator Ben Nelson says the Senate is finally getting ready to pass the Highway and Safety Construction Reauthorization Bill.
Nelson says the bill paves the way for Nebraska to make major improvements to roads, bridges, transportation systems and safety programs. He says it will create jobs, expand economic development and make the state safer for all Nebraskans. And he says it will break a chain of short-term extensions since 2009 that have been necessary to keep federal funding and programs going.
Senator Nelson says if all goes well millions of dollars will be available to Nebraska Department of Roads so they can get the ball rolling on projects.

Senator Nelson hopes to clear the path for road repairs due to last summer's Missouri River flood. He says it is the government putting up the roadblocks here.

With the Senate ready to pass the bill Senator Nelson hopes the House will follow suit.
