Lois Elaine Pietzyk (Marrs), 95, of Elk Creek, NE, passed away February 5, 2025, at the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, Nebraska. She was born July 25, 1929, in Cook, Nebraska to John and Marjorie (Wachtel) Marrs.
She taught at various country schools in her early teaching career before joining the teaching staff at Tecumseh Public Schools. Lois loved her students and the support and friendships of her fellow teachers. Lois retired in 1994 after 34 years of teaching.
She was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and, for many years, was an active member of the Altar Society.
Through the years, Lois and Ray enjoyed playing pitch, and pinochle with family, friends, and multiple card clubs. In later years, Lois loved baking chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies for family, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed piecing together jigsaw puzzles, working on crossword puzzles, and was a Scrabble Queen. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Lois is survived by her children, Elaine Gemmell of Marble Falls, TX, John (Beth) of Broken Bow, OK, Kathleen (Phil) Hall of Humboldt, NE. Beverly Pietzyk-Hardy of Conifer, CO, Jan Pietzyk-Duran (Joseph) from Peyton, CO, and Steven of Waukee, IA; 12 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marjorie, her husband Raymond, sons-in-law Daniel Gemmell and Dennis Hardy.
Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Thomas McGuire officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in the church parish hall.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2025 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
