Larry Lewis Lanter, 71, of Everest, Kansas passed away unexpectedly on March 17, 2026, just two days before his 72nd birthday. He was born on March 19, 1954, in Horton, Kansas, the son of Donald and Helen Lewis Lanter. Larry lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and an unwavering generosity toward all who knew him.
Larry graduated from Horton High School in 1972 and went on to attend Highland Community College for two years before transferring to Kansas State College of Pittsburg, where he earned his degree in Education. On January 29, 1977, he married the love of life, Deb Kresse, in Grove, Oklahoma. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and the land they called home.
Larry was a hard worker with a heart of gold, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Those who knew him recognized him as one of the most genuine people they could ever hope to cross paths with. His greatest accomplishments, by his own measure, were his two sons and the farm he built alongside them. That farm stood as a testament to the values Larry help most dear: perseverance, partnership, and pride in honest labor.
Larry’s dedication extended well beyond his family and his land. He served his community faithfully for many years as President of the Everest Alliance, as a member of the Everest Volunteer Fire Department, and as a trustee for The Washington Township. His commitment to the people around him left a lasting mark on the community he loved.
In recent years, Larry found great joy in following his grandchildren to all their events and activities, a pursuit that kept him happily busy. He also cherished time spent on his motorcycle and days at the lake surrounded by family.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Deb Lanter of Everest; his sons, Michael (Bailey) Lanter, also of Everest and Nicholas (Stacey) Lanter of Jay, Oklahoma; and his treasured grandchildren, Tiffin and Beckett Lanter. Also survived by his brother-in-law Bob (Laura) Kresse and multiple nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary Lanter.
A celebration of Larry’s eternal life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 24 at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary with Pastor Tim Dement officiating. Private family burial will be at the Miller Cemetery, Everest.
Friends may call at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary on Monday, March 23 where the family will greet friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Larry Lanter Memorial Fund where the family will deem the funds to local community at a future date and may be sent in care to Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary.
