Presentation Explores Cowboy Culture of Kansas at Seneca’s MuseumFest
SENECA, Kansas – The Seneca Area Chamber and Downtown Impact, in partnership with the Seneca Free Library, will host “Ridin’ Trails and Writin’ Rhymes: Cowboy Culture of Kansas,” an interactive presentation by cowboy poet Ron Wilson, on Saturday, June 13 at 12 PM at the Seneca Free Library, 606 Main Street, Seneca, Kansas.
The free presentation is part of Seneca’s MuseumFest, a community-wide event celebrating local history and culture with all five of Seneca’s museums open free to the public from 11 AM to 3 PM. This year’s event will also feature a mobile exhibit from the Children’s Discovery Center at Castle Hall, hands-on activities for children, a lunch stand hosted by the Nemaha Central Band, and prize drawings for visitors who tour participating museum locations.
Kansas played a major role in shaping the legend of the American cowboy, from the cattle trails of Abilene and Dodge City to the lasting impact of the beef industry today. Through stories, history, and cowboy poetry, Wilson brings the culture and folklore of the Kansas frontier to life in a presentation that is entertaining, patriotic, family-friendly, and, as he says, “most of the time, it even rhymes.”
Wilson is a nationally known cowboy poet and ambassador for Western heritage. His presentation combines storytelling, humor, and original poetry to celebrate the traditions and history of cowboy culture in Kansas.
“Kansas Folklife: Celebrating Kansas Traditions” is part of “By the People: Beyond 250,” a national initiative of the Federation of State Humanities Councils and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
Funding for this program was provided by Humanities Kansas, with support from the State of Kansas through the Kansas Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund.
