Phil Geib will share his knowledge and expertise in flintknapping on Saturday, September 19, in Brownville. He has worked as an archaeologist for more than 45 years.  Geib was a contract field archaeologist in the Southwest for the 1st half of his career and is now a professor of archaeology and anthropology at UNL.  He started flintknapping in 1979, slowly gaining experience in that ancient craft.  One of the classes he teaches at UNL is “Lithic Technology,” so that students can learn about stone tool production and use. Learn how people in the past made tools and weapons from rocks. It was a crucial survival skill in ancient times and is a way to make blades, arrowheads and tools. Guests will see some hand specimens and demonstrations mixed in with a slide show. If you have a potentially interesting stone artifact or two, then bring it to the program. The program is free and open to the public at the Antiquarium. It is free and open to the public.
